Inpatient Program for Teens in Louisville, KY
The Brook Hospital – KMI offers a highly structured Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Program that utilizes the Medical Model of Treatment for treating adolescents (ages 13 to 17) who are experiencing problems with psychiatric illnesses and/or emotional disorders. This program is designed to provide the highest level of direct patient care that is possible which includes physical, social, spiritual, medical and psychotherapeutic treatment interventions.
Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Program Services
- A secure setting with 24-hour skilled nursing care
- Thorough admission assessment by a registered nurse
- Crisis stabilization by a team that can include a nurse, social worker, expressive therapist, special education teacher and psychologist
- Psychiatric evaluation and interventions by a psychiatrist
- Physical examination and intervention by a physician
- Medication management
- A master treatment plan which is goal-directed, contains measurable objectives and addresses criteria for discharge
- Development of a comprehensive discharge plan including a structured modification program
- Psychoeducational groups
- Therapeutic groups for grief resolution, life planning, self-image, recreational therapy and art therapy
- Chemical dependency group for adolescents with substance use disorders
- Family counseling
- Educational priorities and individualized program of instruction developed by a special education teacher
Adolescent substance use and behavioral health issues
After completing the Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Program, an appropriate referral is then made for the patient to continue treatment in the least restrictive level of care possible (i.e., partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, aftercare programs). The level of care recommended is determined by the individual needs of the patient.
