Children’s Behavioral Health Services in Kentucky
The Brook Hospitals’ KMI location in Louisville offers programs for children, ages 6–12, who may be experiencing mental health conditions and emotional problems. Through a multidisciplinary team approach, we can provide a high level of direct patient care, which includes medical, social, spiritual and psychotherapeutic interventions.
Before admission to any children’s treatment programs, patients and their parents receive a comprehensive mental health assessment. To determine the most appropriate level of care, our team is led by an attending psychiatrist who will collaborate on an individualized plan, progress reviews and treatment goals. Family members are invited to participate.
Adhering to Kentucky state law, all school-age patients will continue their primary education while in treatment. Jefferson County Public Schools provide on-site classrooms for patients.

Treatment and discharge planning
The Brook Hospitals recognize that recovery and healing is a lifelong process and therefore discharge planning begins upon admission. The treatment team works closely with each patient to set realistic goals for continuing care following treatment and makes available information or referral for further services as necessary.
Following completion of the inpatient program, an appropriate referral is made for the patient to continue treatment in the least restrictive level of care possible (partial hospitalization, for example, or outpatient aftercare). Level of care is always determined by a patient’s needs.
