Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Program

The Brook Hospital – Dupont offers a highly structured Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Program, utilizing a medical model of treatment for adults who are experiencing problems with psychiatric illnesses and/or emotional disorders. This program is designed to provide a high level of direct patient care including medical, social, physical, spiritual and psychotherapeutic treatment modalities.
The Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Program Services include the following:

  • A secure milieu with 24 hour skilled nursing care
  • Thorough assessment by a registered nurse and development of an initial treatment plan
  • Development of an individualized master treatment plan by a multidisciplinary team, which is problem oriented, goal directed, contains measurable
  • objectives and addresses criteria for discharge
  • Evaluation and crisis stabilization by psychiatrist –directed multidisciplinary team (including a social worker, nurse and activity therapist)
  • Psychiatric evaluation by a psychiatrist
  • Physical examination and intervention by a physician
  • Pharmacological interventions as indicated
  • Psychoeducational groups and individual sessions as indicated
  • Therapeutic groups that address the areas of assertiveness, feelings, problem solving, grief resolution, life planning, stress, self-image, social skills
  • and nutrition
  • Various therapies including recreational therapy, art therapy, yoga and meditation
  • Participation of family in treatment
  • Development of a comprehensive discharge plan

Following completion of the Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Program, an appropriate referral
is then made for the patient to continue treatment in a less restrictive level of care (i.e. Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, outpatient). The level of care recommended is determined by the individual needs of the patient, however the least restrictive level possible per case is the goal.
