The Brook Hospitals offer a highly structured Intensive Outpatient Program for adults who are experiencing a condition related to an acute psychiatric illness and/or emotional disorder. This program is designed to address the individual needs of these patients through specialized physical, social, spiritual, medical and psychotherapeutic treatment interventions.

The Intensive Outpatient Program Services include the following:

  • Thorough assessment and monitoring by a licensed therapist with the capability to consult with a psychiatrist as needed
  • Referral for pharmacological interventions as indicated
  • Development of a master treatment plan by a multidisciplinary team which is problem-oriented; goal-directed, contains measurable objectives and address criteria for discharge
  • Development of a comprehensive discharge plan
  • Psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups
  • Therapeutic groups that address the areas of assertiveness, feelings, problem-solving, grief resolution, life planning, stress, self-image and social skills
  • Family participation in treatment including family therapy and individual therapy as indicated

Following completion of the Intensive Outpatient Program, an appropriate referral will be made for the patient to continue treatment in the least restrictive level of care possible (i.e., outpatient, support group etc.) The level of care recommended is determined by the individual needs of the patient.
